A new group has been set up in Holsworthy to support children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

Holsworthy SEND information, advice and support group was set up by Tracey Vickery, Hannah Steadman and Sarah Stroud, who are passionate about supporting those with SEND. They’re working together with DiAS and with Devon Parent Carer Voice who have launched an Ambassadors Volunteer project to support families in local communities. Hannah and Sarah are both ambassadors for the project.

Holsworthy SEND aims to provide  information on its Facebook group as well as answering questions and giving general guidance if parents are struggling to access support.

The next group meeting is on January 22 at Holsworthy Scout hut from 6.30pm to 7.30pm. This is a drop-in session to answer questions as well as a listening ear and support for those that need it. There will be information packs available on subjects such as EHC plans and autism.

A special children’s club has been set up, ‘Holsworthy Pirates’. This is a club for SEND children who struggle to go to after school clubs. Holsworthy Pirates welcome children aged five to ten years, and will be running activities suited to children with SEND, such as sensory, craft, art and sports sessions. The first session is on Wednesday 29th January 2020 @ Holsworthy Scout and Guide Hut between 5:30pm and 6:30pm.

Tracey, Hannah and Sarah have been busy drumming up support and interest through local media too. You can read an article about the group in the Holsworthy Post. You can also listen to a radio interview about the project.
