This week saw the publication of our annual report for 2018-19 and in it you can find details about what we achieved, the number of people we supported and how we influenced local and national policy and services.

Here are a few of the highlights:

  • We gave casework support to 1615 people, an increase of 11% on the previous year and 36% on the year before that. That means we are helping around 450 more parents, carers and young people each year compared to two years ago.
  • Georgie and Vanessa who staff our enquiry line are giving lots of information when people first contact the service. In 2018-19 they were able to give comprehensive advice to 235 people which answered the queries they had.
  • Our volunteers and DiAS Officers supported at 202 school meetings across Devon. These included school meetings, review of EHC plan meetings and exclusion meetings.
  • DiAS Officers supported 65 families with advice about going to tribunal – 26 of these proceeded to appeal hearing. Our volunteers who have had legal training have also supported at six mediation meetings and two tribunals.
  • We have delivered 26 training sessions to 520 people. This included meetings training for parents and professionals and SEN support information sessions across the county.
  • Browsealoud accessibility software was added to the website to ensure that people
with literacy difficulties, mild visual impairment and English as a second language could
    use it easily.
  • The number of people visiting the website for information went up be more than half. We also published two new sections on the information area of the site – one about parent, child and young people’s views and a second about the EHC needs assessment process.
