Your child's voice matters

DiAS and DPCV (Devon Parent Carer Voice) are working together on a new ambassador volunteer project. It aims to help parents and carers get their voices heard, inform themselves and others, and find the right support.

Megan Kenneally-Stone co-ordinates the project and she is busy recruiting and training the first wave of volunteers – so far nine people have been trained, 10 are about to be and a further 10 are interested in the project! Volunteers live across Devon in towns and villages including Seaton, Kingsbridge, Honiton, Bishop’s Tawton, Okehampton and Tavistock.

Volunteers are trained to become links in their own community. They connect with local parent carer groups, nurseries, schools and colleges – sharing information about DiAS, ways that parent carers can get involved with the parent carer forum and in shaping wider services. The information sharing is two-way – parents also feedback their experiences, information and support needs, and volunteers share these through the Ambassador Volunteer Co-ordinator with DiAS and DPCV.

Volunteers are trained and offered ongoing support from Megan. It’s a great way to learn more about SEND, support other parents and influence local and Devon wide services and support.

If you’re interested and would like to know how you could find out more about the project or become an Ambassador volunteer, please get in touch with Megan by email or by phone on 07815 490 088.
